Universitas Sumatera Utara Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM USU) continues to expand its community impact through public service programs. On Monday, February 9, 2026, RSGM USU collaborated with the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) and the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia to deliver a Dental Service program at the Older Adult Social Care Unit (UPTD Pelayanan Sosial Lanjut Usia), Binjai City. This cross-institutional and international partnership aims to improve access to oral healthcare for older adults through structured, patient-centered care.

Services delivered: education and clinical care

Older adults received a range of services commonly needed in later life, including:

  • Oral health education (daily hygiene routines, gum care, and denture hygiene tips)

  • Dental screening/examinations to identify treatment needs

  • Scaling (tartar removal) to support gum health and reduce infection risk

  • Dental fillings for cavities

  • Tooth extractions, based on clinical indications

Delivered by specialist trainees under academic supervision

All clinical procedures were performed by dentists enrolled in RSGM USU’s specialist training program, supervised by academic staff—supporting safe, standardized care for older adults, from initial assessment and treatment planning to post-treatment guidance.
